Every writer has their own style of writing. Writing style is defined by the way a writer, musician, or artist expresses something whether in words, music, or art which is characteristic of a particular person, group, or time period. Your writing should have a particular style, tone, and mood, much like setting a stage for a play.

Steven Pinker has a distinct humorous way of explaining why old fashioned grammar and writing rules may not work as well as they used too.
Quotes About Writing:
“Who wants to become a writer? And why? Because it’s the answer to everything. … It’s the streaming reason for living. To note, to pin down, to build up, to create, to be astonished at nothing, to cherish the oddities, to let nothing go down the drain, to make something, to make a great flower out of life, even if it’s a cactus.”

The agent performing the action may appear in a "by the..." phrase or may be omitted" (Purdue Owl). Most writing educators advise against using a passive voice and some say to use the passive voice and turn it into an active voice.
